Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would put her at least in the eyes of America, into the child prodigy category. However, for an Irish girl with talented parents and extended families, these qualities were normal. Maureen arrived in this nurturing refuge on the 17th of August 1920. Her family was the family of her parents. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and owned shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen FitzSimons is the second daughter from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed the wonderful family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and enjoyed playing tough sports. The combination of this passion and her gift to perform was impressive. She was the recipient of nearly all the Feis prizes for her own country's theater and drama was a testament to this. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and let her live her dreams of classical theater as well as singing opera.
